Fulfilling the potential of young sportspeople affected by cancer

An Extraordinary Talent
and a Lovely Human Being

Haris Hussain was an extremely talented wicket keeper-batsman who represented his county with great distinction, and his work ethic, enthusiasm and love for the game of cricket was un-matched.

Haris represented Thorncliffe, Sheffield United, Barnsley and Wath with great credit - as well as excelling in junior cricket for Barnsley Taverners, Joe Lumb, South Yorkshire Schools and Yorkshire Schools.

A wicket keeper batsman of immense talent and work ethic, Haris was one of the most gifted glovemen in South Yorkshire - at any age. Incredibly quick on his feet and with great powers of concentration, he was able to maintain a high standard at all times behind the wicket. An aggressive left handed batsman with the ability to play shots all around the wicket, his only weakness was also a strength - the brash confidence of youth! This would allow him to dominate bowling attacks at his own age groups, and his Under 17 season at Wath CC has been unmatched in recent history. As he made the step up into senior cricket he gave no quarter - standing up to bowlers with years more experience than him, and often he came out on top!

He made his debut for Barnsley CC 1st XI in the Yorkshire South Premier League shortly after he arrived at the club as a 14 year old - former Barnsley Captain Jason Booth described him as "phenomenally talented".

Haris moved to Wath in 2018 and would win the South Yorkshire Championship Wicket Keeping Award in his only season with the club - a brilliant achievement for a then 17 year old. He top scored against Elsecar with 72 runs in his last ever innings - against a bowling attack including Lesroy Weekes, Paul Cummins and Mohammed Illyas. No mean feat.
